What are the causes of cystitis?

Bacteria live in the area of the anus and reproductive organs. In some cases, these bacteria cross the lower urinary tract and reach the bladder. After reaching the bladder, it is excreted through urination. However, if the number of bacteria reaching the bladder is higher than the number of bacteria excreted from the body, it causes inflammation of the bladder and kidneys in the later stage. Besides, It can occur during sexual intercourse or if genital cleaning is not provided very well, as well as retention of urine for a long time can cause cystitis.

Since the urethra in women is shorter than in men it is easier for bacteria from the external environment to reach the bladder. This is exactly the reason why cystitis has a high incidence in women. About 20% of women experience cystitis once in their lifetime.

Cystitis formations are treated with antibiotics. Before starting to the treatment process, samples are taken for urine culture and antibiotics, until the result is obtained, antibiotics with a high effect on urinary tract infections are used; antibiotics with high effect in urinary tract infections are used until the result is obtained. According to the results of the antibiogramme, these drugs can be changed if it is deemed necessary. In the case of the presence of chronic infections, the duration of treatment may be prolonged.

What are the ways to protect against cystitis?

  • After using the toilet, do your cleaning from front to back. Thus, you prevent the passage of bacteria into the urinary tract.
  • Urinate as long as possible without waiting. This is important in order to quickly remove bacteria from the body.
  • Take care to urinate immediately after sexual intercourse.
  • At the time of sexual intercourse, if the source is provided enough, the urethra gets less damaged.

Try to urinate within ten minutes after sexual intercourse.

  • Drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily; urine output can occur and thus the excretion of bacteria can be ensured.
  • Reduce your alcohol, coffee and tea consumption. They may have negative effects on the bladder.
  • Moisture creates an environment that facilitates the reproduction of bacteria. Therefore do not allow your genital area to remain moist for a long time.
  • Do not choose nylon and tight-fitting underwear. Use cotton underwear and change your underwear daily.
