What is a Benign Prostate Enlargement

What is the prostate?

Prostate disease is a gland usually seen in the urinary tract at a later age, located around the urinary canal at the exit of the bladder in the lower part of the urinary bladder and presses on the urinary tract. The prostate disease does not occur in women.

What is a benign prostate, and who does it occur in?

A healthy prostate has a volume of 15-25ml, while its size, on average, is about the size of a large walnut. As age progresses, the prostate also continues to grow slowly. Benign prostate enlargement occurs due to hormonal changes that occur in men due to aging and is a common disorder in men over 50.

Prostate diseases usually occur at an advanced age. In men over fifty, they lead to unpleasant symptoms in the lower urinary tract. These symptoms are more often caused by an enlarged prostate, a disease known as benign prostatic enlargement. Other conditions can also lead to these complaints; your doctor will consider them. Prostate enlargement, known as one of the most common diseases in urology, affects the normal way patients urinate, decreasing the quality of their daily lives and can cause lower urinary tract symptoms. In addition, it should be known that benign prostate enlargement is not prostate cancer and does not cause prostate cancer.

What are the symptoms of benign prostate enlargement?

When the growing prostate presses on the bladder outlet, the way you urinate is affected and leads to problems such as the desire to urinate more often or the feeling that you cannot empty your bladder. Symptoms of benign prostate enlargement are seen in three ways: retention (storage) of urine in the bladder, urination, and after urination.

Retention of urine: The patient, who needs to urinate more often than usual, feels the need to wake up to urinate, cannot prevent the urge to urinate that suddenly arises, and may miss urine.

Urination: A benign prostate enlargement that affects urination causes it to take longer to urinate. Urine that flows diffusely is dashed and weak.

After urination: Even if the patient urinates, he feels his bladder is not completely empty and may leak urine into his underwear.
