Pay Attention to Neonatal Testicular Torsion!

Pay Attention to Neonatal Testicular Torsion!

What is testicular torsion?

Testicles form in the kidney area while developing in the womb. The vessels and nerves of the testicle come from the kidney area. So it goes down with a long stem. This settlement may not be complete. It stays plugged in anywhere. Even if it settles in its normal place in children, there is a fixative bond between the bottom of the testicle called the gubernaculum and the bottom of the sac called the screntum. Since this fixative bond is not fully developed in children, especially at an adolescent age, the testicle can rotate 180 degrees, 360, 720 degrees around its own stem. This rotation can be permanent, as well as it can rotate from time to time, it can loosen from time to time.

The importance of testicular torsion is the most important among urological emergency cases. Because the testicle cannot be fed due to the specified rotation, the testicle becomes charred and completely loses its function within 5-6 hours. That's why every minute and even seconds is very important for this disease.

What are the symptoms of neonatal testicular torsion?

This complaint is seen with very severe pain. The child wakes up from sleep at night. Redness occurs in that part of the scrotum. Testicle is hard on palpation. It is not right to relieve pain with temporary measures. It is certainly necessary to consult a urologist.

How is neonatal testicular torsion surgery performed?

Testicular torsion disease in a newborn baby is a rather urgent and important case. It must be taken to emergency surgery in order to save the testicle Tests and examinations are not waited due to urgency. Ultrasound and nuclear examinations can be performed in cases where there is little suspicion of testicular torsion.

2 - 4 cm incision is made in the groin area or over the bags. The membrane above the testicle is opened. Torsion (rotation) is corrected by turning the testicle to the opposite side. Heat application is performed to increase blood circulation and it is observed whether the testicle have blood stream or not. Meanwhile, an incision is made on the other side of the groin to secure the opposite testicle. The testicle that is intact is then fixed to the base of the scrotum in case it rotates.
