Circumcision is a surgical procedure with many benefits, especially in reducing urinary tract infections, although it is not always medically necessary. Uncircumcised boys are ten times more likely to have urinary tract infections than circumcised boys.
When should circumcision be performed?
Although there are countless studies on the benefits of circumcision, there is still no definitive decision regarding its timing. Although child psychology experts say it is inconvenient to do it between the ages of 3-6, this idea has still not been scientifically proven. From the newborn period, circumcision can be performed safely in comprehensive hospitals by specialists in their field.
Is the semester break the right time for circumcision?
The first 24 hours after circumcision are very important, and excessive mobility should be avoided in the first week. During this season, it is easier for children to rest at home because the weather is cold. Since activities such as cycling outside in the summer and playing in the park cannot be done during this period, the period after circumcision is more comfortable. In the same way, in terms of children not staying away from school and their lessons, the semester break is more suitable for circumcision.
By whom and how should circumcision be performed?
Although circumcision may seem simple, it is an important surgical procedure that can have serious complications. For this reason, it can be performed by urology or pediatric surgery specialists with local or general anesthesia under operating room conditions.
Is a pre-circumcision examination necessary?
To prevent problems that may occur during or after circumcision, the child must be examined by the physician who will perform circumcision before the procedure. In the case of "hypospadias," popularly known as the circumcision of the prophet, circumcision should not be performed. Children with a family or personal history of bleeding disorders should be given blood tests first. Again, the doctor should be informed about the child's additional ailments.
How should care be after circumcision?
Painkillers may be required for the first 24 hours after the circumcision. The cream prescribed by the doctor should be rubbed into the seams for three days. Children can take a shower within a few days after circumcision. Although surgical recovery is within three days, visual recovery takes three weeks.
