Biography

Prof. Dr. Alp Gürkan Born in İzmir. Graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1981. In the same year, worked at the Yale University Cardiovascular Surgery Department's experimental surgical center for 18 months. Later returned to Turkey to start specialization training in the General Surgery Department of Ege University Faculty of Medicine. Completed General Surgery training in 1989. Due to military service, worked at Amasya Military Hospital. Completed mandatory service at Manisa SSK Hospital between 1991 and 1992.

In 1992, was tasked with establishing the organ transplant department at İzmir Tepecik SSK Training and Research Hospital. In 1992, received 6 months of kidney transplant training at Ege University Organ Transplant Department, followed by another 6 months of training at Harvard University's Women's and Brigham Hospital Organ Transplant Department. In November 1992, assumed the role of organ transplant coordinator at SSK Tepecik Training and Research Hospital. Earned the title of associate professor in 1997. In 2003, became the head of the 3rd Surgical Clinic at the same hospital and performed the first small intestine transplant in Turkey.

Started as an Associate Professor of Organ Transplant and General Surgery at Istanbul Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital in 2008. In 2009, appointed as a Professor at Istanbul Bilim University and as the Kidney Transplant Coordinator at Florence Nightingale Hospital. Started working as a Kidney Transplant and General Surgery Professor at Universal Çamlıca Hospital in 2011. Completed the Okan University Health Management Master's program in 2012. In 2014, joined Çamlıca Medicana Hospital as a Kidney Transplant and General Surgery Professor. Since March 2017, has been serving at Okan University Faculty of Medicine and Hospital.

Has published over 200 studies in national and international journals and presented at numerous conferences, receiving awards for research at many national conferences. Also received achievement awards from the Ministry of Health and the Izmir Medical Chamber for contributions to the field. Acted as an assistant editor and reviewer in several medical journals and participated as a speaker or session chair at numerous national and international scientific meetings.
